Wig caps

So I have completed the following things

  • Ventilation
  • Sewing machine

Now I am working on customizing my wig caps, and the reason why I chose to make my caps is because the wig caps in the beauty supply:

  • tear easily
  •  they just don't fit at all
  • they fit too tight, cutting off blood circulation
The ones from China, well for one I don't want to pay DHL $30 for shipping of one item. One cap may cost $8-$12.  I came across a couple of videos on YouTube that were helpful and the video I shared is what helped me a great deal. Enjoy!!

Frustration is a good thing!!

So the first you have to do with a sewing machine is learn how to use it right well I did that. I learned how to thread the bobbin, thread the machine and pick the thread out of the wheel to began sewing. That took a total of a day. The next step is learning the stitches and understanding when and how to use the stitches. I do know that when sewing on certain materials, you have to use a different stitch. So frustration paid it forward. My battery is about to go dead on my laptop and I have to go to work, its ThanksGiving weekend. Will chat with you later....never give up....

How to use a sewing machine + Sewing Tips! (Easy for Beginners)

Learning to sew is not as easy as it looks. I had no idea how to thread a bobbin, better yet, I had no idea on how to even sew. The manual that comes with any sewing machine looks  kinda confusing, but to me it's always better to have a visual view of what you are trying to learn. I guess I have to see it over and over again, before I pick it up.

Today I learned how:

  • thread the bobbin on machine
  • load thread into bobbin
  • pick up second thread from bobbin
The mistake I made was I didn't pick up enough thread from Joanne's so I will have to pick up more tomorrow. The sewing thread is so much thinner than I am used to, but it will take some getting used to. The next step is learning what the  sewing stitches  mean and what patterns to use with the stitch I will be sewing my wigs onto wig caps I have to know what stitch to use and what cap I prefer to use.  Until next time, thanks for reading and see you at my next blog post!! Stay warm!!

P.S. I have come to realize that when you become frustrated with anything, pull away from it, then come back with a refreshed mind.

Ventilation Progress- Day 12

So if you have been following my blog you already know how frustrated I have been First you must realize that ventilating  is not easy to began learning. It requires patience.

The photo I posted below is a photo of a closure I purchased maybe over a year ago. The site that I purchased it from no longer exist anymore. I wore it until the piece  started loosing hair in it.  I just got a sharpie and colored the bald spots, lol. I had no idea years later that I would be ventilating.

The good thing is, I didn't throw it away, and I'm glad I didn't. Now I don't know about you, but I think I did pretty good for first time ventilating.

Day 9- Ventilating-Do's and Don'ts

So here is another day of ventilating, which is something I had never wanted to began, but since I am getting more into wearing wigs, and purchasing some for women with hair loss I decided to learn this process. I can't even began to add up the amount of money I have spent on training, and the number of hours on YouTube and on the internet seeking training. As I stated in another one of my post, I am still learning and doing this at least 2-3 times a week in between working in my salon.

I have only been practicing about a week in a half, and here are my suggestions if you want to began making wigs.

  • Seek training that is affordable
  • Begin practicing before  your training
  • Began ventilating with synthetic hair
  • Began ventilating with Tulle or black weave net from Joanne fabric and beauty supply
  • Have plenty of light
  • Purchase a magnifying lamp and mirror
  • Pillow for your back
  • Purchase things a little bit at a time
  • Blog about your journey and take photos of your progress
  • Eventually do YouTube videos if you are promoting a brand or service

and last........
BE PATIEN.........THIS IS NOT EASY.

So I began ventilating with black net, then I graduated to tulle and finally a small piece of lace. I am still having the following issues:

  • Tension
  • Looping hair
  • Single knot with one hair, which is the easiest to do
  • Loosing excess hair
  • Being able to see the holes
Here is progress this far:

My parting I still need to work on:
Pinning is not correct

"DON'T"
The photo above shows a semi-finished part, but the pinning is not correct. When pinning is not correct, the lace is easier to tear and you can't apply correct tension to make knot.

Will split my days up 6 hours a day, 3 hours ventilating and 3 hours learning sewing machine!!
Thanks for reading my blog, see you later this week...share your tip below!!

Day 8-Single Knot ventilating

Hello and thank you for coming by to read my blog. Well I finally decided to come back and share what I have been doing the past couple of days. I have studied this one video from YouTube over and over again. It has helped alot. I started ventilating on lace, not the black net I began with. At first I really had a time understanding the lace situation, but I figured that I out. Turning the needle helps to maneuver the hair through the loop.

I thought I wasn't going to like it because it was so tedious, but I actually enjoy it. I am also going to make my wigs by sewing machine instead of sewing. I am going to purchase more synthetic hair and practice with it. Here is the video that helped alot.

Here is the video

Here is what my ventilation looks like so far.
